If its black mould try cleaning with something like this. http://www.screwfix.com/p/de-solv-it-anti-mould-mildew-spray-500ml/95861?kpid=95861&cm_mmc=Google-_-Product%20Listing%20Ads-_-Sales%20Tracking-_-sales%20tracking%20url&kpid=95861&cm_mmc=Google-_-Shopping%20-%20Mixed-_-Shopping%20-%20Mixed&gclid=CjwKEAiAh7WkBRCQj-_zwZvk52ISJADj7z8CZ8dz7GVl9jvTCMftcgbBP5MytTsbOMCA-cE2D5gGFhoCH_Hw_wcB#product_additional_details_container
Use paper towels and bin them after use. In a few months time this will no longer be your problem.0 -
Thanks. Yes my mum is out of here soon.
I can't see any mould, but I can smell it in the corner of one room and one of the carpets is very musty.
If it were me I wouldn't bother about it as I'd be out of here. However, as my mum is older I don't want to take any risks, so I'd rather get the council round, and/or a private specialist to look at it. I don't care how it looks, I just want to ensure that the air quality is good for my mum.0 -
Could you perhaps use bleach to kill the spores and then run a dehumidifier in there ? If it is only for another 2 months , then she moves out ,it might be easier to achieve and then she can wave goodbye to the awful letting agents and get on with her life .0

I was originally just going to rip the carpet out which is beyond salvageable, and then bleach underneath. In the other bedroom I'm not sure where the mold is coming from. That's why I'd like to get a pro round to have an opinion.
I'm looking forward to saying goodbye to these letting agents, and I'd like to have the easiest solution.0 -
" I will have a chat with the manager on Tuesday "
Do not have a CHAT with anyone !
Put your complaint in writing ( keep copies and post from post office with proof of posting NOT RECORDED ) and ask for the redress scheme that the Letting HAS joined BY LAW
Take photos of the DRY ROT which spreads like wildfire and eats all the wood and concrete around it.
Point out in the letter that you informed the letting agents of the mould problem in July but nothing was done.
Get your Mum out ASAp0 -
Thank you. I have emailed the complaint, informing them a signed complaint is in the post to them.
I've found out the redress scheme, though Shelter inform me that its a new scheme as the previous one wasn't working, and they are not sure of its success rate.
Shelter inform me that unless its a structural issue, I'll have to pay for the mould treatment and that the council are unlikely to push the landlord for payment of the treatment, as my mum is moving out in a couple of months.
Yes, I've taken pictures of the dry rot and I'll be showing it to the council and any professional that looks at the situation.
I'll probably just pay for it to be sorted out, and give the bill to the LA. They wont pay but I need it sorted out ASAP.
Yes, I have a new house for my mum but its part of an onward chain so we have to wait until the present occupants move.0 -
Buy your mum a half decent dehumidifier, they work wonders and aren't expensive to run. I can personally recommend this one,
http://www.amazon.co.uk/DeLonghi-DES12-Compact-Dehumidifier-Litre/dp/B0029NZW5E/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1418565916&sr=8-4&keywords=delonghi+dehumidifier
If it's a structural problem it may take longer than the rest of your mum's tenancy to fix, so this is a better idea. It's someone else's fault.0 -
Thanks for that, I'll check out the dehumidifier.0
