  • Was hoping for another NSD tomorrow but just realised I have no fabric softner left :(

    CP xx

I replaced commercial fabric softener with white vinegar a few months ago I even put in a few drops of essential oil too. Much cheaper and it doesn't clog your machine.

  • First-Trouble - does white vinegar really work at keeping clothes soft? and how much do you use. Also sceptical about essential oils as wouldn't want to ruin clothes.

I just put the same amount as you would softener. I use a few drops just to have a little scent to the wash I haven't noticed any problems with adding the oil (don't have to add it though it does give the house a lovely smell too when hanging it all up to dry) but the vinegar is helping to soften up the old towels.

One more NSD for me today, bringing the total to 7 this month. Am very pleased. Still lots of food in the fridge and cupboards so I am hoping there will be more. I cannot think of anything I need tomorrow so crossing fingers for a double whammy, two days running.

DS told us he is going to Spain for a week on Monday (good for some!), so I might try to give the Fiscal Fast a go, using up food we have indoors and vegetables from the allotment. Still got to do a bit of shopping this week to be able to do that, though, as I will need a few more fresh veg and fruit.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Evening.

I have done my weekly shop this evening, instead of tomorrow morning. Spent £46.07 in A*di and £17.33 in M*rrisons. I 'shouldn't' need anything else for the week now so hopefully can get a few more nsd's in.

My M*rrisons had the big sacks of spuds half price at £2.

£18.52 spend for me at Tesc*. I got in enough for a few days due to the weather so I shouldn't need to go out for a couple of days at least.:)
    Hope everyone is well :)

Well done with looking at reducing supplier's bills :T Have you had a look at T*lk - T*lk for broadband/phone line ??
A couple of questions, if someone buys me a meal should I be counting that in? Or not as I didn't pay?

Also I just cannot get my head around NSD. It just doesn't really happen in my world.......Maybe I need to plan better?

Already I can feel my mindset changing though, not just with food but toiletries too. Trying to spend as least as possible x

If someone buys me a meal I just say 'thank you' - it's not coming out of my budget :rotfl:

Talking about NSD - No Spend Days.

As this is a Grocery Challenge and covers all my groceries and household stuff then that's what I am looking at when I talk about spends. If I buy a book or a pair of socks that doesn't count as that is my own personal spends.

We each run out budgets as we see fit, but if - for instance- I counted every type of spend then I would have to count my fares for going to work and there wouldn't be an incentive for me to stay out of the food shops IYSWIM ;)
    hth

Anyhows - I managed another NSD today. I have dry-fried the three packs of mince which is now residing in the fridge to make a big pot of Bolognese sauce tomorrow. Couldn't make today because big batch-cooking pot is full of leek and broccoli soup ready to be finished and frozen tomorrow, as I ran out of time and had to dash off to paid work :D

Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday

I really don't mean to put anyone off, but I saw some fabric softener that was marked vegetarian and tallow free, so I wondered what tallow was? I was shocked at what I found out and its no wonder washing machines clog up, as well as the drains. I now also use white vinegar and a few drops of essential oils. I also use a small handful of soda crystals in the powder drawer.
