Dado Rail damaged - advice needed!

Hi

Somehow a chunk has been knocked out of one of the dado rails and I haven't a clue how to fix it, I'm moving out of this house next week so really need to fix it ASAP. It's made from plaster as far as I can tell.

filler - just be careful not to make it too watery, then form it into roughly the right shape, then paint it over

    hopfully noone will notice

also why is your dado rail made from plaster? thought the whole point of dados was to provide impact resistance/ protect walls?????
