Had a call about PPI advice needed

Hi, I had a call yesterday from a company called high street claims. They said they had a some money for me from a PPI claim and asked how I wanted it to be paid. I had never heard of them before and not instructed anyone to do anything. When I asked how this had happened, they said that a claim I had which was rejected went to the ministry of justice for review and they got me my money.

Has anyone heard of this before?

I did have a claim rejected and didn't do anything after that.
They said they would write a cheque out for the money they got and required a fee. The cheque would arrive via courier within a hour and I would sign some forms. Then once the cheque is cleared they would ask for there fee.
What should I do is this legit or a scam?
Seems too good to be true.

Comments

  • If is sounds too good to be true, it generally is. :-)

Even if it was not, why would you want to pay them a fee, when you could collect it yourself, if it ever existed.?

It's a scam, leave well alone.
  • Why don't they simply take their fee and make the cheque out for a lesser amount?

    Answer: 'cos it's a scam.
  • There is no firm called High Street Claims registered with the claims regulator.

There is a High Street Financial Claims.

Either way, they are telling porkies so report it to consumer@claimsregulation.gov.uk

Yes. it is a scam. It is known as advance fee fraud.
When I asked how this had happened, they said that a claim I had which was rejected went to the ministry of justice for review and they got me my money.
The MoJ have nothing to do with PPI complaints other than regulating claims companies. Reference to regulatory or Govt bodies is a known scam method.
hey said they would write a cheque out for the money they got and required a fee.
And there is the advance fee in advance fee fraud. If you ever watched the TV show Hustle, you would know how it works. Play to someones greed and then hit them with a smaller up front cost and the mark never gets the money/item at the end.

This is the correct answer. The Ministry of Justice do not deal with customer complaints and they could not deal with your case without your signed authority. Complete scam
  • Thanks all.

    Will leave that alone then
