DLA to PIP timescales

Hi everyone,

On 16 January 2015 it will be exactly 1 year until my fixed term DLA award ends.

I live in the Oldham area (Postcode OL, near Manchester).

I've heard and read that people being transferred from DLA to PIP are being asked to apply anything upto 1 year prior to their DLA award ending and are only being given a matter of weeks to complete the form and send it back.

I know that under DLA the renewals timescale was 20 weeks before the end of the award.

Can anyone advise what the timescales are? When should I be expecting the PIP forms? What happens if I don't complete the PIP form within the stated timescale on the form even though my DLA is due to run until Jan 2016?

Any help appreciated. I'm starting to gather all my evidence for the new claim in anticipation.

It could be anytime up until 2017. However looking at the map of DLA to PIP change over your area OL hasn't yet started the change over. Those on DLA are being re-assessed for DLA. I wouldn't worry about it yet as your award is until Jan 2016. They will invite you to apply for PIP when the time comes. When you do eventually get invited you have 4 weeks from the date of the letter to send everything back. For now tho just sit and relax. Here's the change over map. All areas in white mean all existing DLA claims are still being assessed for DLA. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/364452/pip-postcode-map.pdf

I'm in the OL area as well, and I've just had a DLA renewal pack, not PIP.

Hey all. Can I butt in please? I don't understand this, looking at that map my area is white (TA postcode) and I had an indefinite DLA award. In November 2013 I asked for a PIP conversion. They failed the PIP claim and closed down my DLA award at the same time. They then looked at the PIP claim form to see if they could give me attendance instead but couldn't. From what you are all saying did the DWP get it right by sending me the PIP claim form?
  • I was given a lifetime award of DLA back in 2004.

When I got my letter in March saying about increase in rates it says on there that I will be transferred over to PIP and wont need to worry.

    Is this correct?

No, this isn't correct! Life time awards on DLA makes no difference. You will be invited to apply for PIP just the same as everyone else and like most people you will probably have a face 2 face assessment.

In the above post you said you asked for the PIP forms. As i already stated on another post of yours this was your mistake. The white areas on that map mean that you would have been reassessed for DLA and not PIP. So DWP didn't get it wrong, you did. You should really have gotten advice or looked into this more before jumping the gun, sorry. Try applying for Attendance Allowance again.

    Thanks for the replies.

I am aware that OL postcodes are still not one of those which is being transferred onto PIP. However, I don't expect that this situation will last very long and fully expect that OL postcodes will be required to transfer to PIP (IMO) before April 2015.

I'm concerned that when this change happens, unlike under DLA where there is a 20 week renewals period I will be sent a form immediately once the change happens and given 4 weeks to complete, this despite the fact my current DLA award runs until Jan 2016.

Having read the descriptors I should qualify as I cannot walk any distance at all without being in severe pain. I also walk slowly and with a severely impacted gait.

However, we all know the stories that have been in the media and on sites like this and I really don't think I could go through apeals/tribunals etc at this point in time.

I'm also concerned due to the fact that I have just arranged to reduce my working hours even further in an attempt to better manage my condition. From 5th January 2015 (assuming my employer has sorted out the h&s issues and I am back at work) I will be working only 30 hours a week rather than the current 34 and also working term time only. This will reduce my salary by approx £7k a year.

Granted some of this will be offset by the fact my wife now has a promotion at work which means she will be working full time rather than part time and will receive a raise in salary, but it's still a worry that I have to contend with on top of my health issues.

I suppose I can only wait and see what happens

Hey Dori. With all of my previous DLA reviews, they took about 15 weeks to come through. My PIP claim took nearly 26 weeks from start to finish. As for the time to complete the form, my form was returned within 48 hours of receiving as were the DLA forms previously. My DLA award was indefinite when I applied for PIP.
