Bam

Quick query - what does BAM refer to in car adverts? Have seen it referred to for a range if different cars and googling it doesn't reveal much apart from more adverts with BAM in. Am assuming it relates to a higher powered engine but what does it mean?

    It doesn't really stand for anything. It is an engine code for VAG engines, along with others such as APX, APY, so denotes a particular engine.

    I think the BAM engine is the 1.8 litre 225bhp engine as used in the Audi TT.
  • Thanks for reply. I've seen mondeo and bmw adverts with BAM in them too - would they have a VAG engine in them?

    Not unless someone has retro fitted a VAG engine into them which I suspect is very rare. Do you have any examples of the BMW / Mondeo adverts?
  • I must be going mad. Am sure I've seen some but quick search on auto trader reveals nothing. Anyway, thanks for the explanation!

    Can you post a link to an example?
  • I've seen them more in local paper garage listings rather than on the internet. I'm sure there was even a Peugeot with BAM in the advert in the paper at work. I'll try and post a photo of the advert on Monday depending on how easy it is to include a photo in a post.

    Not entirely sure if custard needs to be involved though...

    BAM = Bloody Awful Motor.
    A man walked into a car showroom.
    He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
    Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
    The man replied, “You have now mate".
