Laptop for a 10 year old

Hi I'm looking for a little advice here, I am looking for a laptop for my daughter, it would be used for homework, surfing the Internet, games and particularly Sims4
My budget is under £300
Am a bit confused by the amount of choice

  • Best place to start would be to look at the minimum requirments of Sims 4 found bellow on EA's website

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    • REQUIRED: Internet connection required for product activation.
    • OS: Windows XP (SP3), Windows Vista (SP2), Windows 7 (SP1), Windows 8, or Windows 8.1
    • PROCESSOR: 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, AMD Athlon 64 Dual-Core 4000+ or equivalent (For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-62 or equivalent)
    • MEMORY: At least 2 GB RAM
    • HARD DRIVE: At least 9 GB of free space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games
    • DVD-ROM: DVD ROM drive required for installation only
    • VIDEO CARD: 128 MB of Video RAM and support for Pixel Shader 3.0. Supported Video Cards: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or better, ATI Radeon X1300 or better, Intel GMA X4500 or better
    • SOUND CARD: DirectX 9.0c Compatible
    • DIRECTX: DirectX 9.0c compatible
    • INPUT: Keyboard and Mouse

Looking at one site only this is the cheapest one I could find that met the minimum graphics requirments of a Intel HD 5000 or beter

Lenovo B5400 on Ebuyers site which is £339.99 but you can claim £50 quid cash back. Brining it to £289.99

You could try taking the minimum requirments in to a store and ask an advisor and they will be able to recommend a laptop for your needs
  • Personally, I'd pick up a cheap one from gumtree/ebay.

My 6 year old has one. Mainly for watching movies. I don't think it cost more than £50 - 2 years ago.

It surprises me the amount people are willing to throw at tech when something a lot cheaper meets their needs perfectly well.

The widescreen laptop I have running my astro gear cost me just £30 from gumtree last year. I only mention it as the specs exceed the minimum specs quoted above.
