The wiring diagram you posted in #38 shows the Neutral going into terminal 4.

In your 2nd photo in #40 you appear to have the Neutral going into terminal 5.

Good catch. The image in #38 does show that, but the one from the back panel of the cooker (in #32) implies terminal 5 is correct. I'm guessing the reason for the ambiguity is that it can go in either one because they're linked to one another by the flat metal bit?

It doesn't matter if the Neutral goes into terminal 4 or 5 as they are linked together, like wise the Live conductor could go in terminal 1 2 or 3.

If we're going to be pedantic then according to the wiring diagram on the back of the actual cooker, it shows the Neutral in terminal 5 so the op has got it correct.

I haven't got around to it yet. Picked up some 6mm T&E from B&Q today. Some of this stuff:

The live and neutral wires do appear to be insulated, so does that still mean that I have to insulate the earth myself, and if so is black electrical tape suitable? Otherwise it's a trip back to B&Q.

I also just took off the back panel of the cooker. Here are some photos:

So this looks slightly different to the cookers in the instructional videos I've seen online, but from what I can make out the live wire goes in the far left slot, the neutral in the 5th slot, and the earth in the 6th. And I'm assuming the actual process is like in this video:

If you need more pictures just let me know what you want me to snap.

Diffcult to see, but I suspect thats just a glorified terminal box - and that the input cable goes in underneath / from the bottom. Have a look under. Essentially what you'd expect to happen is releasing the screw will give you space between two plates. You then insert the wire, screw it back in to clamp in place.

And from reading the diagram I would agree, Live to Terminal 1, Neutral Terminal 5 and Earth to Terminal 6. As prior posters have said, make sure its properly clamped.
