Wood burner in a smallish room

I'm thinking of installing a wood burner in what used to be a fireplace in my home. The dimensions of the room are approximately 2.5 meters by 4 meters. I would like one of those wood burners with a self-cleaning glass at the front. Any ideas on what type / size of woodburner I should go for? I've never had one before so I'm pretty clueless. Thanks.

A very small one, approximately 4kw! Ours is 4.9kw and makes our living room which is approx 4x4m absolutely BOILING - it's a Charnwood and has the airwash so no need to clean glass. Obviously you need to burn it correctly in terms of temperature and moisture content of logs to avoid black glass too! Also, stick to 'reputable brands' such as British/Scandinavian made - avoid Chinese rubbish etc.....0

I agree with the previous poster we have a 4.5kw burner and it is fine for the size of room. The make is Woodwarm which is manufactured in the UK its a great burner.Mortgage when started October 2011 : £94,134

A ceiling fan an a couple of open doors will help you heat the whole house0

I love a woodburner, but I do find they make one room really hot and leave going to any other room as a cold shock!0

Agreed, I tried heating the whole house with the one in our dining room. Even to make a slight difference, the dining room was so hot it was unusable.
Even the cat had to go outside and lie on the flags to cool down.0 -
If you have a very small one.....say 4kw, can you heat a radiator off of that?0

Until aged parent arrived for Christmas I hadn't had my gas central heating on this season as the woodburner in my small lounge had been enough to warm the fabric of my 3 bedroom terrace. Two doors from the loung to hall and dining room, and I open them once the lounge is warm enough. I'm considering getting a little fan to move the heat. I've also boiled a few kettles on the top..
I don't like a warm bedroom and if I'm in the kitchen enough heat gets there and in any case am active.
I've bought no wood apart from some briquettes and have scavenged (legally) the rest. It's more work but prepping wood saves me the cost of the gym and the heat is so satisfying, particularly with the current grotty weather.0 -

You'd need to get a burner that is specifically designed to heat water as well. The plumbing required to make it work safely and effectively isn't that simple, so get proper advice. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
i have an eco fan sat on top of mine0
