Smart meters - reading

G4s need to swap my electricity meter as it is 'at the end of its useful life' and needs to be replaced according to EDF.

I don;t know if its standard but if they put a 'smart' meter in, will that be the end of me submitting meter readings online? Or do energy co's still ask for this information as a cross check?

Also, there is a thread running on this board about a dispute over a final meter reading so do smart meters help when switching between suppliers as all parties can read the meter remotely?

Thanks

Hi. There are lots of threads on here about smart meters, put it into the search at the top of the page and start reading. Your questions will be answered. Big debates going on, for or against. You don't have to have one.

  • Yes, thats the end of you having to submit readings. We still come along every now and then for a look at the meters. Every 2 years or so. Occasional sim card failures affect a few of them

You won't be able to submit readings online
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
