Who do I complain to?

Hi

One of my neighbours have taken the roof off their garage (they did this years ago for reasons unknown) but have now erected scaffolding poles several feet higher than the garage walls and 'made' a roof by attaching tarpaulin to the poles. The new roof is not pulled taut, it sags significantly and when the wind catches it, it moves up and down. A lot. The noise when this happens is immense and is constantly waking me up (and I am a heavy sleeper - storms etc never wake me!) If I were reading this thread I would be thinking for goodness sake, how much noise can a bit of tarpaulin make but believe me, its a very loud.

Any idea what department at the council would deal with this? Its a bit of a strange one!

Thanks

Why would you not discuss the matter with your neighbour

In the first instance I would complain to the neighbour might be a simple solution
  • Have you tried talking to them - explain it's disturbing your sleep? Ask them how long its going to be there?

Obviously the neighbour in the first instance.

Our council has a 'Noise Pollution' page (see below).
    • Try speaking to your neighbour in the first instance.
    • If the direct approach does not succeed, you may want to consider mediation. Please contact the Bath Area Mediation for more information:
    • Speak to your Landlord or Housing Association.
    • Take you own civil action.
  • I should have probably said, the neighbours aren't approachable, they are very scary drug dealers who also run an illegal car repair business (that is also very noisy as they only seem to do repairs at night for some reason and it involves a lot of welding and grinding) The car repairs are done under the 'tent' Sadly due to me wanting to sell my house imminently, I don't wish to make any formal complaints for obvious reasons. I was just hoping to make an annonymous complaint to the council about the noise.
I suspect this is just yet another thing I will have to learn to tolerate!

Ring Crimstoppers about the drugs, ring HMRC about the car repairs, ring council regarding running the b repairs from home and the noise. Also ring Enviro Health as they may be polluting the water course by not having a purpose built repair shop.
