Anyhow , i have a moto g , and i am swopping to a nokia lumia 520 , i know what a pain it can be not having all contacts on the sim and only realising when the swops done , how do i ensure all contacts are copied over to my sim from the moto g , ready for when the sim goes into the Lumia?

Sync your contacts with your Google account. When you set up your Windows phone connect to your Google account and sync the contacts.

Don't do it via the SIM as the amount of information that can be stored on a SIM is tiny If your contacts have multiple numbers/addresses/email addresses etc these cannot be stored on a SIM.

Best place for contacts is in an email account such as Gmail or Outlook.com then you add that account to whatever device and they all get synced. Also means that if you ever loose the phone / sim the contacts aren't lost.

Also the email \ data approach works best since the sim card seems to hold them in a more basic format - say if you have contacts set up with Home \ Mobile \ Email \ social media details then it creates an entry for each one, which is a pain to then arrange back..
