How do I play an mp4 file?

I've been sent some mp4 files and neither Real player or Windows Media seem capable of playing the file. Are there any downloads that will allow me to view the files?

You need to download the codecs so your media player can decode the file - I use k-lite codec pack as contains all common codecs... There are also many others around though...

Use quicktime or VLC player <<< VLC is the best i personally think, a lot faster load times and can play litrally any file.

You can burn to a CD and then rip it back off and it will be in MP3 format.

i assume that you have tried the suggestion as per andipandi, itunes.

there are several converters that you can get, as suggested above also if you do not want itunes.

I have just been given a huge lecture on mp files by my daughter. - it is still very new to me.

k lite is a great codec pack to get. never had any problems with codecs since I've got that.
