Best Wii U games?

Options
Hi there,

We've bought the kids a Wii U for Christmas, the Mario Kart pack.

Are there any other games people can recommend for the Wii U, as we don't want to give them just the one game.

Kids are aged 10 & 13 if that helps (girls).

Thanks in advance.

Just Dance - any version, Mario World, Mario v Sonic at the olympics.

Just be aware there is no wii remotes in the wii u pack - I bought the same pack and have just had to buy 2 controllers for it so my 2 kids can play together on it.

Nintendoland is ideal for that age group and you can pick it up for under a tenner on Amazon.

Mario Party & Super Smash Brothers - then again it's entirely possible to pick up it's entire catalogue right now, it's so small! I think you've made a massive error buying the Wii U, I personally wouldn't recommend it as it's going to turn into a first party only machine in months - the wiser investment would've been a PS3 or a 360.

    Thanks.

We have a PS3 already and have previously owned an Xbox 360 and wasn't keen on the catalogue of games, mainly war/fighting games! I will check the side of the Wii U box, as I'm sure it says there's remotes. Can you use the remotes from the old Wii?

Technically, being less popular, Wii games could very well turn out to be a much better investment than ten-a-penny Sony or Ms games.

Yes the remotes and nunchucks from the old Wii are compatible with most games on the Wii U.

    I would say;

Mario world 3d - fun, relatively exciting (mario games were getting a bit stale) and relatively easy to play at the start

Pikmin 3 - cartoony style and simple game mechanics. This game is easy to play, but does actually get quite challenging. A very unique game. Girls might love this one, because it is about looking after creatures, but you have to kill bugs with them etc.

Monster hunter (3?) - Ok I've never played this, but it does LOOK quite good. A sort of Pokemon-esque style I think, may appeal to kids. Think it is more geared towards boys but might appeal to girls

Hyrule Warriors - again, never played this for ONE reason.... it is a clone of the 'Dynasty Warriors' games, which were brilliant (and probably more for boys). If your kids have any sort of liking towards classic nintendo characters/zelda then this will probably be decent... a button masher and lots of action

Yes, you can use the old classic controller as well which makes it great for four player games if you have Wii controllers already as it means not having to invest a huge amount of money into new controllers. Some of the games are remarkably flexible as I was playing Mario Brothers 3D with the gamepad, the pro controller, the classic controller and a Wiimote with nun-chuck for the four players.

I haven't been bothered about Nintendo for a while but I think the Wii-U is a great console, it may mainly rely on first party content but when they're offering very polished games that offer something different to the rest of the market that's no bad thing.
