Does Capital One still give you a card if you don't have a bank account?

Capital One sent me a classic card recently, a name that is my proper i.e. passport..But I dont have any bank account or credit under that name...My current bank account was under the name prior to the name change, so am wondering if C1 did a credit check did they see the same file as my current bank Nationwide sees?

Star-Light you need to get a copy of your credit reports from the agencies and see what they show.

Nobody can answer this question definitively no matter how many threads it is asked on. It is likely you have one credit file with all your data on, but there is a small chance that something hasn't been linked up and doesn't appear.

There is also the possibility that capital one searched a different agency to nationwide.

The way to find out is to get your credit file.

    What caused your name change?
e.g. was it due to marriage, or did you request a name change by deed poll?

Why haven't you changed the name on your bank account?
  • You do not need a bank account to have a credit card
