Moving Out Issues - Hoover!

Hi MSE Members,
I'm not sure if i've got the right topic so I sincerely apologize to the moderators if I haven't!
We'll i'm moving out of my parents house for the first time on Saturday into a flat with a friend and I've already bought most of my "essentials" .... microwave...kettle etc but when it came to a hoover we where really unsure of what to go with.
Most of the floors are carpet and well I can be fairly messy so me and my flat mate have decided to go halves on a hoover and we have a decent budget available of approx £250 (although ideal I don't want to spend it all, I just want something that is going to last and does the job).
I've found a few, so if you could suggest the best option that would be fantastic!

Miele C3 Complete Cat & Dog Powerline

Dyson Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Any advice would be much appreciated...

Henry for me.
I've had posh Dysons and cheap other brands, and after getting a numatic I will never ever buy anything else again.
I personally have a Charles, which can be used to suck up wet (although it's not a fully fledged carpet washer). It's a God-send for unblocking drains and hoovering up big spills0 -
I'd buy a cheap one and spend the rest on something else. If you are renting rather than buying, you could be going your separate ways after a year, and who gets the hoover then? Or you might move somewhere with different flooring, or move in with someone who also spent £250 on one!
When I was researching earlier this year, the consensus seemed to be that you should either go cheap or go expensive, as the mid-range ones were the worst of both worlds. I got a Daewoo RC350BK for about £28 and it's been fine.
That's unless you're the sort of dirty where you anticipate treading kebab sauce/excrement into the fibres on a weekly basis and really need something heavy-duty.0 -
Anything out of the Numatic stable will do you fine.
Our home Hoover is a Henry that was purchased in 1999 and in all that time we have only ever had to replace the hose. Think we paid £99 back then, but Asda had one on the shelf the other day for £109.
Nannies new regulations mean they have dropped the motor down to 580W, although you can buy other models that are dual speed (580W / 1200W)
Check out the rest of the Numatic range at http://www.henryhoover.uk.com/the-henry-hoover-range-what-are-the-differences/Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -
My M&D have a Dyson Cordless - nice and light, copes well with different floor surfaces. As long as the usage time is long enough for your needs, go for this because it's easy to store and you also have an instant car vac.
Dysons cope well with long hair too - easy to snip it off the brush part.0 -
I like my 10 year old Henry. Still working as new. http://cpc.farnell.com/numatic/900000/henry-vacuum-cleaner-red-580w/dp/SI16811?in_merch=New%20Products&MER=e-bb45-00001002
A friend has the Dyson you pictured and likes it but I consider them expensive.0 -
Dysons are quite expensive yeah but I've always thought of them as top quality, although I don't know enough about them to back this up... haha.
@Snakey - maybe not every week! But i'm definitely not clean.
The Henry does seem like a good option as it is lower than our budget which is good.0 -
I've used Henry before at work and they always seemed very robust, although the suction isn't the most powerful. I do have a Miele coffee machine (life's little luxuries!) and the quality is great. If you have the budget maybe give them a go.
Hope this helps0 -
Henry suction is terrible compared to the Miele, and yes, I've used both regularly.
Go Miele, personally much prefer them over Dysons too. Totally no brainer.
Let us know what you go for and your thoughts!0 -
Think about how and where you intend to store the cleaner...flats dont tend to have great amounts of concealed storage....so you might want to consider something more lightweight and possibly cordless.
I have a big dyson and its ok...wouldnt rave about it but it does a reasonable job...I wouldnt need to see it in the corner of the room though if it couldnt fit in a cupboard.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -

I paid about £30 or so for mine from Lidl, it's fine.... although I am not a messy person. Maybe you could spend £5 on a book on how to be cleaner, tidier, less messy.0
