Virgin Webmail Quick Query

I'm on Virgin Webmail and I've received an e-mail that says it's from "Postmaster" with the subject heading "Offensive Message for [My Name]". I don't want to risk opening it, but before I delete it, can anyone tell me (for future reference) is there a way of finding out who the sender of the e-mail is and what's in it, without my having to open it first?
Any advice welcome - thanks!

im on virgin webmail too, we get lots of rubbish , but not one like you've described . i normally just delete them. i was told that if you open them you let the sender know that its a email address thats being used and it opens the flood gates for loads more.Word for 2023 …PROACTIVE 🧡 2023 -decluttering campaign 1020/2023 ⭐️⭐️Saving towards paying off car in November…£720/£1500 🚗0

Can anyone answer this? Ta!0 -
You need to view the email in order to pull out the information from the header that then allows you to lookup the rough area the sender is from using various websites.
As this is likely to be a virus carrier it will be of no use. Someone has, in all probability, opened another version of this mail which has downloaded a virus and has then highjacked their PC to send out this garbage to everyone in the address book as well as randomly generated addresses.
Anything like this should be deleted from the server.
I recommend downloading Mailwasher which will allow you to view mail without actually downloading it and delete any you don't want. Search this forum for Mailwasher to see what others say.0 -
Johnmc is right.
If you download the free version of Mailwasher http://www.mailwasher.net/
and set it up to look at your webmail while it's still on the Virgin server, then you can choose what you want to actually download to your PC and what is to be marked for deletion.
You can use it to view any emails that you're not sure about while it is still on the server so as to make a decision whether it is spam or not.
You must remember to use the Mailwasher 'button' and not your usual method each time you want to check your email though.
Emails like the 'postmaster' one are 99.9% spam so delete it.0 -
Cheers for your replies and thanks especially to johnmc and Mercenary for the excellent info and advice!
I've now deleted the offending e-mail (there was no chance of me opening it) and I'll use Mailwasher in future.0
