Confused re ESA and SDP

Hi

I live with my partner, she claims DLA MRC and LRM. I claim PIP standard rate for both components and Carers Allowance for her. She is also the main claimant of IR ESA WRAG on our behalf.
Nobody claims Carers for me so I sent an IS10 in recently to claim SDP.

My partner rang DWP for an update and was told there's no change to benefit as I don't qualify for SDP as I claim Carers for her and the ESA claim we have isn't a joint one.

Has anyone came across this before? Is it right or should I seek advice from Age UK?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You have 2 choices here because you both claim PIP/DLA. You could both either claim carers allowance for each other or you could both claim SDP. My advice to you would be to claim the SDP because carers allowance can affect other benefits because it's classed as a taxable income. The reason you can both claim SDP is because you're both claiming PIP/DLA BUT to be able to claim this you would have to STOP claiming carers allowance for your partner. DWP are terrible they won't explain anything to anyone and there's alot of people missing out on benefits because of it. Good luck.
