Economic Benefits to the UK of EU Membership

I've no problem with EU Nationals/Asylum Seekers/Refugees claiming benefits in the UK, can anyone give me a reason, why Asylum Seekers & Refugees don't claim the same in France. It's part of the EU, do they have their own criteria over their. If we had their benefit system would we get thrown out of the EU. It would help protect the asylum seekers, stop them endangering their lives by climbing onto/under trucks, making their way to the UK.

Or is the French Government uncivilised, maybe it includes all the other 27 member states too, what do the EU have to say about this?

Update
A second refugee camp will open near a Channel port by Christmas, the French admitted yesterday. It is intended to relieve pressure on the notorious Sangatte centre at Calais, which has become a staging post for migrants trying to reach Britain. Why don't the European Court of Human Rights send French representatives to these hostels offering assessment for Asylum to France. Do British Nationals sleeping rough on the freezing Streets of this country have any Human Rights, can they apply for basic Human Rights or are they kicked in the gutter because they have no accomodation address - we need to address basic Human needs in this Country too - how can we call ourselves a civilised society, that supports Human Rights.

'If they don't want asylum-seekers to try to get across the Channel, why build hostels on the north coast?' Last night, the Home Office was mystified by the French U-turn. Sources close to Mr Blunkett said the British Embassy in Paris had been assured by the French government 'at the highest level' that reports of a new centre were groundless. An interior ministry spokesman said, however: 'It is a sensitive issue but I can say Cayeux is in the pipeline.

I think they all (mostly) speak more English than any other European language. There are not too many Eritrean schools teaching German, and of course the French are all racists.

The story you have reproduced is over 10 year old. David Blunkett was Home Secretary from 2001 to 2004.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

Sorry about that, the link is to the Mail Online dated Thursday, Dec 11th 2014, I thought it was up to date news. It doesn't mention Home Secretary in the article.

I guess Human Rights is a subject that will never be resolved and a waste of time :o

Best value:), EU Citizens are free to work anywhere in the Eurozone and also claim benefits. Take the case of Nicu Popescu a Romanian scrapyard worker who wants to move his family to Britain to claim £25k benefits and a four bedroom house, he wants the very best for his family, like all of us:beer: Is he in the wrong for claiming what's on offer or is the government at fault for being soft on the benefits system?

You have highlighted one example from what are probably millions of examples. Other examples could include all those who get British Child Benefits even thought their kids are living in a foreign country.

I do blame our government for not doing enough to highlight and stop such things happening, but in the end these things are happening because of the EU, its unelected Commission, and its insidious meddling in every aspect of our national life.

I voted in 1975 to continue membership of the European Economic Community. I did not vote for a European Union. Nobody except a few politicians have had a say on that. Yet! But the time is coming.
