Magneglaze Secondary Glazing....any good?

Hi, is magnetic secondary glazing any good?

Can you help? We have recently moved into a 1980's with wooden frame single glaze leaded windows which very much suits the character of the house. The house is not well insulated due to the single glazed windows.

Replacing the current wooden windows with double glazing feels like an overkill as the wooden frames are in good condition.

I have looked at secondary glazing however the units are very ugly (in my opinion :)

I am currently looking into magnet glazing which appears to be more subtle approach (eg Magneglaze, Extraglaze)

Is magnet glazing any good?
Is Magneglaze/Extraglaze any better than buying DIY magnetic glazing kits (there is big cost difference)
Any other suggestions I should investigate?

Thanks
Filiss

  • I hear reports that over time the magnets will become detached if/when the glazing flexes.

I would go with the Superglaze which is the screwed system from the same company. It's good, I have installed it myself.

Personally I don't think they are ugly if you do a neat job. The main trouble is choosing between fixed and accessible types. Also, consider where the frame is mounted - over the entire frame, or over each casement (assuming casements - you said they were leaded).
