EDF - greedy robbing thieves right until the bitter end!!

Finished with EDF at the end of October due to them making up their own DD amounts and thinking they can help themselves to whatever they want from our bank account despite us not having used that amount of Gas & Electric. Do you think they want a final reading?? No, they do not need that as they have made their own one up, who cares whether it is right or not.
I have emailed them and asked them to amend it since the start of November, no response, no reply, no acknowledgement to the emails. Apart from, of course, all the 'requests for payment' every other day I am now getting as I have still not paid it.
I have now been left with no alternative to pay the damn bill or end up blacklisted over it and I have had to ask SE to take the reading from my final bill instead and use that as my start reading. Their communication on the other hand, fantastic!!
Our current reading after 6 weeks with SE is 54338
'Final reading' with EDF..... 54411
So we have had to pay for 6 weeks electric from EDF that we have not used. Furthermore, I still cannot submit a reading to find out how much energy we have used these last 6 weeks to compare as it'll be a - reading.
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: Good Riddance EDF you greedy robbing bar stewards!!!!! My recommendation is not to touch them with someone else's bargepole. Is there even any point in complaining about this???? They never reply anyway.

Were you providing readings on a regular basis/when requested prior to leaving?
Did you provide closing readings when you switched? Did you provide an opening reading to your new supplier?0 -

Yes and yes.
We ended up cancelling the DD as they were asking for 2 x the utilities used and I would get them to agree to it being the right amount and then the next month they would put it up again so I have been giving monthly readings.
Yes, the readings seem to have been over ridden what I have given to the new supplier. I called them and gave the readings but the bill came through as something else. The gas is fine, the electric was way way over and it says 'estimate' not final reading and they will not revert it.
I have checked Sainsbury Energy account and the opening reading is now the same as the end reading, I cannot submit a reading to SE as it is less than my opening reading by 78 units.
We changed all of our bulbs to LED's, started washing and dish washing on the Eco settings to save money and it has had a huge effect on our bills but EDF don't seem interested in this.0 -

Email EDF with the electricity reading that you believe they should have closed your account on. Ask them to raise this as a dispute and give them two supporting readings.
For instance lets say for the sake of argument that you left supply with them on 3/11 and they had billed you up to 1112, you believed that your closing reading on this date was actually 1000. You need to tell them:
"My correct closing reading as of 3/11 was 1000. To support this I have a reading taken 24/11 of 1088 and a reading taken today (10/12) of 1100."
If possible I would also attach a photo of the meter as it stands today. Ask them to place your account on hold whilst they investigate this reading dispute and correct the bill. They should then take this information to Ecoes who regulate the electricity industry and approve meter readings to amend the dataflows attached to your account. This can take up to 28 days but they should not chase you for payments whilst this process is ongoing. If you get a particularly on the ball person they may even calculate the correct bill manually, take payment for the correct amount and then just arrange for the corrected final bill to be sent once the industry databases have been amended.
This information should then be fed back to your new supplier to amend their records of your initial reading.
If you wish to make a complaint about response times/customer service I would send this as a separate email. Include reference to the issue with the readings and your displeasure with the response times. Reason I would suggest this as in my experience of a couple of companies if you lump it all together it will be sent to a senior member of staff as a complaint and you will have to wait for them to investigate the customer service issues before they'll sort out the reading problems.
Hope this helps.0 -
Thank you, I will run through this tomorrow night and dig out the stuff I sent over to SE when we first started as it is all on there.
I just so sick of fighting these people all the time. We have paid it now and they'll have to pay us back - another fight.
Just sick and tired of them. Every time I submitted a reading they would cancel the last bill and reissue another, every time. I was submitting monthly to keep on top of it.0 -

I am confused. Under the OFGEM switching process, the gaining supplier is responsible for the switching process and asking for meter readings. Whilst I accept that a lot of people pass these readings on to the losing supplier this really should not be necessary. The key thing, surely, is that the customer checks that the opening and closing readings shown on the opening and final bills are the same (with the same date of switch). These may not be the same as the ones that the customer provided to the the gaining supplier (i.e.; industry adjusted). Cancelling DDs before the final bill arrives is not recommended as most energy supplier's computers see this as a payment default which results in a switch to the supplier's standard/variable tariff. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I know that, but it is handy to know the context before offering advice.0 -

The supplier did ask for them and I gave them but when the bill came, it was different. I tried to log onto the system at SE but it was still too new to see them, but I called up and asked if they had them and they said yes. I emailed SE a few weeks back when I could not get a response from EDF and asked them to put the bill reading to the one on the bill otherwise we would be paying too much and they did this. I checked last night and the reading was 54411.
I paid them and emailed them saying I was unhappy that I had received no response but that SE had amended my opening reading and following that I have had an email today saying I need to contact them with the reading and they have frozen the account for 10 days and I do not need to pay.
!!!!!! - it's a joke - I paid it already as they were not getting back to me about the end reading. Surely they must have seen this on their system.
I don't even know if I can be bothered to fight with them over Christmas.
In the meantime SE are taking £140 a month and I have no idea how much we have used (all our lights have been changed to low energy and I wanted to see how much difference it made).
How can this be so difficult all the time.0 -

I appreciate how annoying this can be. When I left EDF earlier this year, my final bill had been quote manually calculated unquote with meter readings which bore no relation to the meter readings given to my new supplier. I raised a complaint with EDF and I was told that the meter readings on the final bill would be dealt with by the meter readings dispute process (via a third party), which could take up to a month. In the event, 3 weeks later I got an amended Final Bill from EDF with meter readings which matched those of my starting reads with my new supplier. These meter readings were not the same as I gave the new supplier: i.e., they were subject to an industry adjustment. The difference was a few pence in my favour.
I fear that you may unwittingly be confusing the system. The gaining supplier is responsible for managing the switch and it provides meter readings to the old supplier. If the old supplier is not prepared to accept these readings as given, then it raises a dispute with the new supplier.
I hope that things are resolved soon. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Had a similar problem going from Scottish Power to EDF.
EDF have used my supplied reading to open the electric account, but scottish power used an estimated reading, about 100 units overestimated. Gas went across without any problems.
This is in the dispute process now, as I will have paid for this electric twice.0
