BT Home Hub probs

Hello,
I have just started using a Bt home hub with internet phone while I am staying at my mum's this summer and have had a few problems so far I wonder if someone can help please?
The hub seems to interfere with my mum's cordless phone but there is only one phone socket in the house so it can't be plugged in elsewhere, are there any solutions for this?

It seems you can make BTBroadband talk calls from the hub and also normal phone calls with the hub phone too, so I thought I could just use the hub phone but although I think I can make normal line calls from the phone I cannot answer an incoming call with it nor does it ring when a call being received - The same happens if I plug the existing phone into the phone output on the back of the hub - any suggestions?
Thanks very much in advance!

I've sorted out the second part now by altering the hub settings to make all phones ring, but the normal landline cordless phone still has trouble because of the wireless hub
  • I have the BT hub. I have one phone, a standard BT phone, labelled "outgoing calls", connected into the back of the hub. It uses the BT broadband talk number. The landline phone, labelled "incoming calls", which uses the landline number, is connected into an ADSL filter which has two sockets. This filter is in turn plugged into the normal phone wall socket. Another lead connects from the ADSL filter to the hub.

So, if anyone is ringing on the landline number it comes into one phone, and for phoning out there is the other line, number and phone. Two numbers = two phones.

Sorry I can't help re using a cordless phone!

We have had the same problem at work. I have read around the web and the there is theory that it is the fault of the adsl filter. The problem is that they are very faulty and getting hold of a good one is difficult. Try swapping and see if it sorts it out.

The BT hub wrecks the signal from our video sender - it makes the picture appalling, so you have to unplug it from the mains (ie no internet) if you want to watch Sky TV upstairs.
They don't tell you that in their adverts.

not just a problem with the HUB, Tv interference happens with any wireless router, go into the admin panel, look for the part where it says Channel, which is normally set to automatic, change to manual and experiment with various channels to see if the interference stops

Thanks - that's brilliant. The picture's perfect upstairs now.
How will this affect my daughter's laptop, which connects wirelessly to the hub? Will it still work as before?
My PC doesn't have a wireless connection - what should I buy to make it wireless?

Your daughters PC should automatically find the changed channel and connect.

If you have an Aldi nearby, they are selling three different types of Wireless LAN Adaptors on the 2nd August for £10.99 each. These are compliant to IEEE 802.11b/g standard.

Thanks espresso - I'm off on holiday three days before they go on sale so I'm afraid I'll be unable to get to Aldi that day! Will any wireless LAN adapter do the job?
