  • If a combi boiler nope, if a heat only boiler I would have said to big for 8 rads.
  • Its a condensor...too small?

  • I am guessing you are in the know from your handle!!! What size do you reckon?

  • new boilers are condensing, do you have a boiler, tanks in the loft and a hot water tank, or just the boiler?
  • Just the boiler. There is a tank in the loft but it hasn't been used for years.

Is a combi the best option?

  • If it's a modern combination condensing boiler then it'll be fine, it only ever ramps up to its max 24kw when producing hot water. For the heating side it's only going to use around a quarter to a third of its kW.

You need to decide if you're going to have a couple of hot taps / showers working at the same time and expecting a good flow rate or if you're happy with one hot water draw off at a time

If you all enjoy several baths a day then maybe you should consider a heat only boiler with a separate hot water tank
  • Thanks guys! We only have a few baths a week..showers the rest of the time. Happy for 1 hot water source at a time!

  • I would still go for a bigger rated combi boiler as it will allow a faster low I hot water compared to a smaller version.

How can you possibly know that the house only needs 6-8 kW of space heating??? You don't know the size of the house, the level of insulation provision, how exposed it is, where in the country it is, how big each radiator is etc.

I've recently designed a heating system for a new build 3-bedroom house, and it had a heating load of 25 kW - the previous project was 5 kW for a 3-bedroom house. You can't just guess these things - a Gas Safe engineer or heating engineer needs to visit the property and make a proper assessment, not just guess on a forum
