Shop Small American Express

The spend £10 get £5 statement credit on American Express promotion. Very hit and miss on the list of participants.

First of all, need to register your card before 6th December, which I did. Managed to get two £5 statement credits so far, which is good, but one £5 deal per merchant, so can't use those restaurants again.

Three listed shops DO NOT ACCEPT American Express, even though I found them using the map on the website. Even worse, Ed's Diner does not even exist in Brent Cross! The security guard says he remembers Ed's Diner used to be in the Food Court, many years ago.

They seem to let merchants register their details, and there is no checking. I can only assume entries get on, and are never taken off.

I did think it was strange when I saw Ed's diner on there too. They have not been in Brent Cross for years!

To clarify, of course you can use a retailer again, but as per the terms,
You can receive one statement credit per merchant with no limit on the number of merchants.

If you find a retailer listed on the site, who then claim they do not accept Amex, I suggest you report the matter to Amex/your card provider.

    The website says
The business listings featured come from internal American Express sources and may contain inaccuracies or errors, including as a result of information provided by third parties. American Express is providing the information on this website “as is”.

I am sure they will check for you whether or not the retailer is enrolled to accept Amex, and if so will probably have a word with the retailer concerned and probably give you a goodwill gesture anyway (How would £5 sound?)
Information about Shop Small businesses on the map is current as of 7 November 2014

There's a link on the amex small shop website to report incorrect information, such as one no longer trading at that location :)

    No £5. cashback.

I would be delighted if it's one in a hundred, but it's three retailers out of five no longer accepting Amex. It's a drop in the ocean.

    They have obviously NOT checked.
You are offering £5 rewards on behalf of Amex?

As regards Ed's Diner, presumably they do accept Amnex and are enrolled in the scheme, but internal records may well have some out of date data on the actual locations currently trading.

The security guards said Ed's Diner has not been there for YEARS.

From the state of the retailer database, i.e. 60% out of date, there is a virtual filing cabinet that no one has looked at for years.

There's a heck of a lot more retailers than just 5 taking part

If you have found even 3 errors, have you used the links to report the inaccurate info of those 3?

I'm not sure why this is a separate thread when this one - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5110696 - has been going for a month.

The OP's claims, maths and logic have already been challenged. I'd just add that his/her claim that registration was needed by 6 December is also wrong. Registration still seems to be open.

I searched the forum using "Shop Small", but the first results are just hits on the word "small". So I started a new thread. I do normally join a thread if there is one.

My "maths and logic" is based on three failed visits out of five, within a two mile radius, not a national survey.

Looking at the main thread, it's possible that the retailers simply do not want to let me use Amex, so telling Amex wouldn't have helped any way.

    Regarding the 6th December deadline.
My fault, somehow I was under the Merchant's Tab, which says

"Registration for Shop Small is now closed"

"If you didn't register in time this year we hope you can join us
    for Shop Small 2015."

I shall stop posting here, since the main thread is a better place for this topic.

I contacted Amex via email about a few places that were listed as taking part but were in fact not accepting amex. I received a goodwill gesture from Amex and was credited £5 for each retailer i mentioned.

I wasn't out for a credit at all... but i thought it was very good of them.
