Moving Home

Hello All

I've just been offered a council property and get the keys on Friday. The thing I'm wondering at the moment is that the fuel is on a prepayment meter with SSE. I am living with parents at the moment so I dont have a fuel provider. How easy will it be to have the meters taken out and do I have to stay with SSE to get that done? Also anybody know how long will it take to get electric etc on in there as I need to decorate it badly!?

TIA

  • Phone SSE the day you take posession of the property. Give them meter readings, and tell them you are the new occupant. If you don't do this you will be charged for any debt the previous occupant incurred!!.

I'm not sure if SSE require you to use a new key, or if you can use the key the previous occupants used. Ask them. As soon as this is clarified, you can go to the nearest shop with a paypoint, and top up.

It's about 20% cheaper on the best DD tariff, they can remove the meters but normally charge £50-60 per meter, and only then subject to a satisfactory credit check.
