Halifax Switch

I currently have a Halifax basic account which, for several months, they have been trying to persuade me to upgrade to a Halifax Reward.

I don't have a problem with that but, obviously, I'd much rather go in with the £100 incentive.

I don't suppose they would entertain a Halifax to Halifax switch?

Failing that I have a Cahoot account which is still active, though I've not used it for several years. The balance is precisely £0.00. Would I need to put some cash in/set up some DDs before they would switch this one?

Would the basic account prevent me from transferring the Cahoot?

So many questions :D

TIA

If you're already with Halifax I doubt you would qualify for a payment switching any account to them.

Existing customers can still get the £100 by transferring a non-Halifax account:

    http://www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/switch-to-halifax/

"Use the 'Current Account Switch Service', to switch into a new or existing Halifax Current Account, Reward Current Account or Ultimate Reward Current Account"
  • - You can request to switch an account from another bank at anytime. It doesn't matter if you do it while upgrading to a Reward account or if you upgrade and then do it later.

However, while I'm not aware of a finish date for the £100 offer, there is always a risk it could be pulled at any point, but no reason at the moment to think this will happen. Just something to bear in mind if you're going to wait a while..

    - You can do a switch to a basic account but you won't get £100.

    - You can't switch one Halifax account to another using their switching process.

    - You need something to switch over from your old bank account - just stick £1 in your old bank account then request a switch from Halifax.

I think you can get £100 even if switching to a basic account. I recently opened a basic account and got an email reminding me to switch to it which said:

"Will I get the £100 for using the switching service? Yes provided you have not received £100 for switching to a Halifax bank account at any point since January 2012 and you are not switching a Bank of Scotland bank account to Halifax."

Which would mean no pressure to get two DD either since it's not a requirement for the basic account. All you have to do is switch.
