What combi boiler

Hi all,

I am considering replacing my old boiler which is about to die by a combi boiler and I have two questions since I am a novice in these matters.
a) I had a quote last Monday and I was offer the following makes, all around the £800-£1000 mark:
Ariston E-combi Evo 3
Ideal Independent C35
Worcester Greenstar 29CDI
Anyone is familiar with this makes?
b)I am a bit confused with the grants i can get for energy efficiency improvements in my house. Is there a quick, easy, and fool proof way to check if I am elegible?
Thanks

From your post I gather your old boiler is not a combi?

Presumably the £800 to £1,000 is just for the boiler? Bear in mind that it is not a simple case of just replacing a boiler.

You can have a look at WHICH for their views on the best boiler

If they are all a similar price the Worcester is best of the bunch.

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • The one I have now is not a combi boiler but an old !!!!!! 23 years old.
Thanks for the replies! I know it was not an easy question to answer.

But does it have a wasteful pilot light or electronic ignition?
over 73 but not over the hill.

There are no new domestic boilers with pilot lights.

You'll find that Gas Safe installers all have their own favourite brands. Cynics might say it's more to do with the incentives they receive for selling them, but it's probably worth trying to get quotes from a few local installers with good reputations and see what they recommend. They will do a better job of warranty repair, servicing, etc. if they are working on a boiler they recommended. Otherwise they'll suck their teeth and say 'See I told you to get a (insert their favourite make of boiler here)'. All new condensing boilers are much the same when new – it's their reliability and serviceability that matter. Which? magazine's reliability reports might help you.
