Covered before... have a search. You've obviously seen the Green Deal thing here on MSE
Like Boiler replacement... bit of a con really in that insulation installer has to be registered with the "Grant" issuer....
They then "quote" for the job based on what it would normally cost + grant value.....
I had it done in a previous house a while ago and when I totted it all up it would have been actually cheaper to buy the stuff from the builders merchant and do it myself or get a good handy man in to do it... it's really not rocket science..
Have a look on Energy Saving Trust Website. they have a Northern Ireland section I believe.... don't hold your breath though....0 -
Phoning a company here, they're are telling me likewise. It's more geared towards the unemployed.0

Really easy and cheaper to do yourself. I did it with my FIL last year. 200 square meters of 200mm and 100mm (300 mm total thickness) insulation from a insulation supplier in Belfast and a few light caps. Think it worked out at £400 and that's a big loft. Took a few hours but I reckon they saved £800.0

What do you mean about the NIHE boiler replacement scheme?
Do you think the price of switching from oil to mains gas will fall by up to £1000 (size of potential grant) once these grants are withdrawn at the end of the month?0 -
There are a few grants available to those people who aren't on benefits but are on a low income. There's a list of them available from this website: https://www.housingadviceni.org/grants-financial-assistance/energy-efficiency Everyone pays a levy on their electricity payments which goes into this sustainable energy fund to cover these types of grants. Looks like this will stop in 2016 - so next year's grants could well be the last. Funding is from April to April every year, so it could be used up by now, but worth phoning PowerNI, Airtricity etc to find out

All I know is what I experienced...
I got a few quotes to change over from oil to gas (Should have been more quotes but quite a few companies didn't bother turning up or didn't bother getting back with quotes. Obviously didn't fancy the work!!)
It was an old heating system so needed pipes changed and I put in new Rads as well as underfloor heating down stairs so a big job.
I got a few quotes back. Had them break it out as at the time was unsure of cost difference of Underfloor heating V Rads downstairs..
Guy I got to do it (Registered with Firmus as most of his work was outside Belfast) was over £1600 cheaper than each of the others (Phoenix registered) and a "Significant" sum of that was around changing the boiler....0 -
I just changed from oil to gas, after I got the nihe grant it cost me a total of £1200 with a 6 year warranty. I priced the boiler and everything needed at trade price at a cost of £1100, and £400 to a plumber. so to do it myself was going to cost £1500 but by doing it by grant cost me £1200.0

Which supplier did you go to?
Ideally I would like to insulate between the roof rafters and maybe give the floor insulation a touch up.
I don't qualify for any of the grants so like everything else I will have to pay for it! Anyone recommend any installers?0 -

I can't remember the name now TBH (some eon). They were up near Titanic on the airport road. This was for the glass wool rolls for a cold loft. The kingspan boards for the rafters were super expensive, would have been several thousand to get it done. No recommended installers, all done with our own hands. Make sure and get the caps for the lights if you have any spotlights. They were around a tenner a piece.0
