need holiday cancellation advice

Hi I've booked flights and car hire for January but will have to cancel as I was diagnosed with breast cancer last Thursday. I am having surgery in 3 weeks so wont be fit to travel.

I paid by visa debit. its no t expensive but could do with not losing the money. my travel insurance has an excess so I think I wont get full costs back,

is there anyone with any advice before I start the process of trying to get the money back.

Many thanks in anticipation.

you need to look at the rules of the ticket and car hire. Unless you have bought a fully refundable flight, the airline are likely to refund the APD only and direct you to your travel insurance for the remainder. The car hire contract should detail whether it can be cancelled with no penalty or whether you would also need to claim that through insurance
Hope all goes well with your treatment
  • Thank you, its all early days yet but im trying to be very positive and need to sort things out, don't want my family having added stress too as I do the bookings etc so I know where everything is and how I paid.

    Thanks again will start x
  • Yeah the insurance will give you your money back less the excess.
    Best wishes x

    A reasonable outcome...

It might be worth writing again to the airline, letting them know the situation and and asking them to reimburse the amount of the excess as a customer service gesture. However, I am sure that you have better ways to use your time and energy...

My very best wishes for your treatment and for the future.
