Capital One Refund

Hi all,

Just a heads up. I recently went over my credit limit (a timing issue) on the Capital One card and got a £12 fine. I rang them up and said I am happy to pay the balance off in full now but I refuse to pay the fine. They accepted as a 'goodwill' gesture.

I also got the impression that I wouldn't have needed to offer to pay the balance off in full.

So to everyone - if you do get a fine on a credit card, then challenge it! This applies to any product. If you don't ask you don't get!

You can challenge something if it's wrong. If it's correct, you can only ask nicely.

You can only ask nicely. In this case, the OP's offer to clear the balance in full may have meant that Capital One were more likely to agree to waive the default fee. If they refused, the OP may not have paid in full as offered and Capital One would then be risking the customer defaulting.
