Should it be quicker?

At last, I listened to MSE Martin's message to switch providers and used the MSE Energy Club. I have projected savings of over £400. So pleased, but just heard from my gas supplier that it will initiate the cross over 46 days after my request (and I used e-mail to speed things up which I don't usually do). Still haven't heard from my electricity supplier. Really just checking I didn't do anything wrong? Am I right in thinking that my old suppliers are being tardy as they don't want the profit they are making from me to go and are going as slow as they can?
Has anyone else taken so long to switch?

Switch-over 4 to 6 weeks is the norm .
Should be a lot less delay in 2015.0 -
Thanks J J Egan. Just outside the norm then.0

About normal currently, then of course there's the lost working days over xmas & New Year which slows everything down too.0
