Natwest done good

O.k well I'd been a bit of a muppet and written a check from my graduate account with Natwest to my savings account with someone else. This was fine and even though I allowed myself a leeway I found today that my cheque hadn't gone from Natwest but when it did I would be overdrawn and that it wasn't cleared at the other bank so I couldn't just take it straight out of there and pay it in to Natwest to cover the unautorised overdraft. Natwest were really good when I explained to them and put my interest free overdraft up to the maximum, even though they told me before I needed to show proof of graduation to get the extra overdarft. Well done them - hopefully when the cheque clears- if it ever clears I'll be o.k. P.S It's only because my savings account has taken 7 days to clear the cheque so far that the problem has arisen and some money I was also waiting for hasn't arrived.

Also they are offering a graduate repayment plan where they wipe out you interest free overdraft with an interest free loan over 2 years and you pay back a set amount a month until it's gone which sounds really useful and you can opt to use this plan or not - and it's free.

I have no real complaints about natwest - if they dont want to give me a current account, then its their loss. Apart from that the service in the Glasgow branch has always been very friendly, despite it seemingly being the busiest bank in the world.

And I always appreciate your honest posting nwsm.

  • Never had a problem with NW banked there since I was 5 (25 year! lol). Work for part of another bank now and wouldnt dream of moving even for staff deals. On the other hand I have heard a few nightmare stories so I know they are not perfect.

Do the bank you work for make you pay your salary into one of their accounts?
  • No thankfully, its a division if I worked for an actual bank branch they may make me. I have heard some banks make you.

I assume they can't make you keep it there?

I have never had any problems with NW in the 14 years I have been there until recently when I have had a catalogue of issues. I am now with Lloyds as my husband has converted his account into a joint account (fool :rotfl: ) and have transferred my salary there as it was easier to keep it all in one place. I prefer Natwest's internet banking though. With Lloyds you have to download the statement if you want to see old transactions which is a pain in the ....

I have not decided whether to keep NatWest yet though.

with lloyds you can search back to 2002,without 'downloading' anything..Atleast i can.. - as you've only recently got a joint account, surely thats enough time for you to check on your husbands spending before joint account status??:D
