On a car I didn't buy, had a HPI check done. Mechanic checked it.., and it had been in a massive crash, repaired off insurance. HPI check obviously didn't show this. So HPI check is not a perfect check. Dealer denied any knowledge of this although he must have known.

The only check that covers as many bases as possible is a check by a mechanic who knows what he's doing. Finding one like this may be more difficult. With the car mentioned above, we would have purchased it. It had also been clocked BTW. Having a mechanic do this sort of check is an eye opener.

The main source of cars at Car Supermarkets is auctions.., where rental companies sell off their high mileage for age cars, leasehold car companies sell off their high mileage cars. They will be relatively 'young' cars but you need to check them for engine wear, in case they come from a source like this and the clock doesn't show it.

Have you directly asked them to fit a DAB radio? How much would it cost to get this fitted?

Yes I got a main dealer quote for retro fitting a DAB and presented that to customer services manager and they would not be moved on their initial offer of £200 compensation. They have suggested they would take the car back and refund me but then I would be back to square 1 but my PX car has already gone to auction and sold apparently. So I would be walking home.

All this fuss for a DAB radio in a car? Do you travel only within a 5-10 mile radius? DAB Radios are total carp if you travel any sort of distance. I ripped one out because it was so much hassle!

I think you miss the point I initially made, I was sold a car that had DAB listed on the specification, and I confirmed with them prior to ordering the car. Your opinion is noted on DAB reception, my VW Tiguan had DAB and never gave me issues in 2 years of motoring. I must live in a good reception area.

I doubt a credit card claim would do any better than this. The offer of a (presumably full) refund is a good result and your problems would be over quickly. Insist they collect it and buy a car elsewhere?

As I said, it depends how you travel. It's utter !!!! for long distances!

Depends where you travel, as you said. It can be fine for long distances.

And it can be rubbish for short ones.

If they've offered to take the car back and refund you then any credit card claim is a waste of time.

Just take the £200 and change the radio ?
