If you were a home owner you would probably have faced similar delays.
Were all 3 engineers from the same company?
I don't know how tradespeople manage to turn up at someone's home having had the problem explained to them over the phone first and never have the part you need despite the back of the van being full of parts.
Once upon a time you could carry generic parts that would enable you to get a high % of older systems going again. Boiler makers now insist on proprietary parts that are different for every boiler and specific to a particular make/model. This makes it impossible to carry parts unless you happen to deal with one make a lot of the time.
To get the right parts we need a particular code off a boiler and in the original posters case the first 'engineer' should have got this code....but even then there can be variations. I think the OP has been unfortunate and a bit let down, but this is what happens with combis. Once they stop...no hot water. We can all get a couple of electric fans to tide us over, but being without hot water makes life very difficult.
Anyway I hope they get sorted very soon.0 -
I have no idea what you mean: "professional" Vs 'cheaper guy'.The fault was reported straight away as the house was freezing but the LL wouldn't get a "professional" central heating engineer in until his cheaper guy had had a look which he couldn't do for several days. It could've been handled quicker.
Is the 'cheaper guy' GasSafe registered?
* Yes? So he's a professional.
* No? So don't let him touch the boiler
* You don't know? Why didn't you check when he came?
provided the chosen engineer is GasSafe registered, it is entirely up to the LL who to use.0 -
I could've got someone in quicker but the LL insisted on using his own guy who I assume was registered but not available as quickly. One would like to think the charge would be consistent between engineers doing the same job so it wouldn't matter who did it but I suspect his choice was cheaper.0
