B&Q Christmas Tree Poor Quality

I bought an artificial tree from B&Q to use this year and in the future. It is a pre-decorated artificial tree in the shape of a cone, they are very popular. I chose the design as it required minimal installation and I assumed it would be ready right out of the box. How wrong I was!
For a start, the lighting is not attached to the tree like it is with most. You actually have to plug the lights into a wall socket as there is no switch provided, then the lights have to be wrapped around the tree, which does not work because of its cone shape.
Also, some of the decorations are of poor quality. The baubles look ok, but the pine cones and berries attached to the tree are made of cheap plastic and do not look real at all! In the shop, the decorations on the tree were of far better quality, leading me to think they have a top end "display model" but then fob customers off with standard, low quality tree.
Having spent £28 on this tree, I was not happy, but B&Q have refused a refund on the item because it was bought over a month ago and has been used. I do not recommend anyone buys one. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

How has it "been used" if you bought it a month ago? Unless you put your tree up in November!
Take it back & this time ask to speak to a manager, I got my own way over something at the returns desk by insisting on escalating my problem up the store pecking order........BUT, compromise by accepting a credit note/gift card.
PS Is it this one http://www.diy.com/departments/6ft-pre-decorated-pop-up-christmas-tree/765834_BQ.prd Crafty B&Q with their description & I can see exactly why you misunderstood what you were getting regarding the lights being ON the tree. It is a bit misleading.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0 -

I have 2 B&Q Pop up trees bought a few years ago, both 6ft. I'm not sure how you are struggling to wrap lights around it because it's not difficult.
TBH I leave mine wrapped around when I collapse them anyway.0 -
The description states:comes pre-decorated with 40 multi-coloured baubles, and 40 soft glow LED lights are also included
Doesn't say the lights are pre-attached . .0 -
Oh no, poor you, you must be devestated, has it ruined Christmas for you ?0

Buy a better quality tree?
Seriously, I don't think you could expect much in the way of quality at that price. A box of led lights for my 6 foot tree cost me £25 a couple of weeks ago in Tesco, and yet you want a decent tree and decorations too for another £3.
Make do with the tree you have for now and then look at buying one (and decorations) in the January sales. I picked up a lot at 70% off in John Lewis and Paperchase this year as I need some unbreakable ones until my little girl is more trustworthy around fragile ornaments. Get a few nice ones and then fill the rest of the tree with one of the cheap buckets of baubles they sell in supermarkets.0 -
