Postal Insurance?????

Hello,
I think I need to offer postage insurance on an item I am considering selling but having tried (and failed) to sucessfully negotiate the Royal Mail site I have drawn a blank about how much cover you get and for what cost. I have gathered that a proof of posting will give you £28 cover for free, but I require cover up to approximately £100.
Any help appreciated!
Thanks
Helen

Try special delivery, here is the link - the cover will be more then £100, but buyer also gets it the following day!!!

A Certificate of posting (COP) or recorded delivery will both give you insurance up to £30.
What other services to look for would depend on the weight of the item. For smaller items like mobiles special delivery can carry additional insurance and has the advantage of requiring a signature on delivery which would cover you on the paypal seller protection.
For larger items you can insure parcels easily but don't get a signature on delivery.
Try this link for further Royal mail options:

There are all sorts of other couriers and services as well but I have no experience of them but others may be able to help if you say roughly how big/heavy the item is you wish to send.

Thanks for your replies and for pointing me in the right direction on the Royal Mail Site. All the pop up windows get on my nerves.
Ta!

That is true, with Royal Mail's Parcel service you can add-on insurance for a little extra cost - BUT they don't cover ceramics for breakage, just loss (they don't go out of their way to tell you this!)0 -

There's a lot they don't tell you actually.....I refuse cash payment on my auctions yet still get emails from buyers telling me it is OK as they will send the cash recorded delivery as it is less than £30 and would be covered for loss. The small print about cash and items like cash (ie vouchers and coupons) not being covered is small enough to be easily overlooked.

Yes, I agree, it's scary how easy it is for the newcomer to 'assume' that the Royal Mail take care of everything and they put things in the post without a second thought, like the £30.00 compensation limit for example, a lot of ebayers don't seem to know about this.....perhaps there should be a note on the 'sell your item' form just to make people stop for a second and think about the postage procedure, overseas in particular!soolin wrote:There's a lot they don't tell you actually.....I refuse cash payment on my auctions yet still get emails from buyers telling me it is OK as they will send the cash recorded delivery as it is less than £30 and would be covered for loss. It was a small ceramic item that I want to sell so it sounds like I will have to go the special delivery route!0 -
What you could do is wrap it REALLY well, so it bounces(!) then send it by Standard Parcels insured up to £100.00 so you are covered if it gets lost but no problem over the lack breakage cover because it won't breakBollards wrote:It was a small ceramic item that I want to sell so it sounds like I will have to go the special delivery route!0
