Do Natwest and RBS share info?

I apologise if there is already a thread about this but new to the forum and couldn't see anything obvious.

I have a basic account with Natwest at the moment following a bankruptcy 6 year ago which has just cleared from my credit file. I applied to Natwest to upgrade to a current account. I passed the external credit check but was declined because i had a returned payment within the last 12 months.

The benefits of the account are good and there is an account with RBS that has the same benefits. Would it be worth applying to RBS or do they share their information so that RBS would turn me down too?

Any advice would be helpful as I don't want to damage my recently restored credit file/score with lots of unnecessary credit checks.

It would be on your credit file that you got declined, so regardless if they share it or not. any bank will be able to see you got declined.

Plus im sure banks have some sort of internal system where they can all share information on people i.e fraud purposes.

I wouldn't waste your time with NatWest if RBS have rejected you.

They have all the same systems so they will be sharing key information between RBS / NatWest and to a lesser extent, Ulster bank.
This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com
