clutching at straws

Hi,
I have just had a new turbo, timing belt and ac compressor on my car, paid with credit card. 2 days later engine goes pop, would cost around £600 to get replacement engine.
Think I know the answer, but am I able to claim anything back from credit card?

Thanks

Darren

  • Did the new turbo, timing belt or ac compressor fail?

If not (and you will need to prove it) you are right in knowing what the answer is.

    On what grounds?
The only possible reason could be if the engine went pop because of the incorrectly replaced or faulty "turbo, timing belt and ac compressor". If this is the case you can even claim more than you paid.

    What went pop?

  • What went pop?

  • The garage who fitted the parts aren't putting the blame on the new bits, as that would make them to blame also. Basically loads of black smoke, engine revved up to 7000, wouldn't turn off. So had to stall it.
Up shot is that two keys snapped on the pulleys (crank and what looks like water pump), this appears to have pushed the piston into one valve. The cause of the smoke and over revving is the question. To me, over revving would be as a result of oil in the air system. The garage is saying that there is no oil there - but I haven't actually seen for myself.

Petrol/Diesel? Diesels can run on their own engine oil when a turbo seal fails.

You need an independant inspection to determine the actual cause.

  • Incorrectly fitted turbo would be my guess.
  • My thoughts were the turbo, but to prove it out will cost more money, which I am reluctant to do, after spending over a grand already.
    It is just very frustrating.
