Some help RE: Hot water timer?

Okay, so I've included a couple of pictures to illustrate what system it is.

Usually, I press the big on switch, the light turns red and it heats the water up, and I then turn it off. I was happy with how this worked.

Today, I turned it on as usual, left it for half hour or so and went to do my washing up but the water was cold. So went to the switch but the light wasn't on, even though the switch was. Now, I am guessing someone else in my house has messed with the controls?

I've no idea, but I can;t for the life of me manage to figure it out how to get it back to how it was. I've fiddled with it and nothing is working.

Any help please? (apparently I can't include pictures of my system?)
