If she's putting on weight she's eating too much and exercising not enough. To lose weight you have to feed less than a diet that would maintain weight.

Generally I would agree with you but the OP has been advised a diet to help with a medical condition.

To just cut the amount of food risks reducing the amount of protein, minerals & vitamins being fed... which is why it was suggested that some of the Hills was substituted by low fat meat & veg/fruit (less carbs)

Jesus this place is full of compliments this week isnt' it.

    To reply.
Shewamber - she is on the Hills Prescription Diet I/D Low Fat dry food as well as the wet - I will explain amounts later when I respond ot someone else.

Babbawah - (text removed by MSE Forum Team)I had to have one of my dogs PTS last August, i dog that I saved from death when he was in the pound aged 8 weeks old beaten and abused by men - I gave that dog 10 years of love before he died of Liver disease - so by feeding my dog a diet instructed by my vets I am NOT killing her! I will be more dignified than you and keep my opinion of you to myself!

Owain Moneysaver - I don't appreciate your comments either. A dog that is fed as instructed by the vet ie 1 can of Hills I/D Prescription Diet I/D Low Fat plus 110g of the same dry food per day and is walked for at least one hour 3 times a day is hardly not walked enough and fed too much!!

Off to wonder why i bothered asking for advice on here.

    From your first post you

Vet said it is because there are no yukky ingredients in the I/D food so the body doesnt get rid of as much waste so it takes in more of the food so I am to reduce her food -

So you either cut back on the biscuit or cut back on the wet food or a bit of both.

In my opnion it is easier to cut back on the biscuit rather than use part tins.

As both are complete diets the balance will still be the same.

The problem I have with that is, until Milo (my dog I lost last year) got ill they only had one meal per day. They don't eat the biscuits straight off so I put 110g in each of their dishes and they eat them at their choice so I cannot guarantee she will be getting any less as she could eat most of the biscuits out of both dishes.
One idea i had (after reading your post) was to split their wet food and give them half in the morning, half in the evening but mix the biscuits in with it that way I could reduce her biscuits but hope she'd eat the food out of her dish and not steal the other dogs food

Get your facts right before making accusations! She has 110g dry food for breakfast and 1 tin wet for dinner AS INSTRUCTED by the VET! And ONE fishy fish dogs fish chunk which is 0.2% fat!! Having seen how ill she was when she was diagnosed and being told by the vet that a dog with those blood readings would be collapsed on the floor there is NO way I would feed her stuff she is not allowed so before passing accusations get your information right before judging someone you know nothing about!
And since when has it not been called a pound - stray dogs go to the pound - or do you make rules for names like that too!

Well , there is your answer. If she is eating the other dog's food she is eating more than the vet advised.

    Feed them in differnt rooms.
You need to put down the food and , if it is not eaten after ten minutes lift the dishes. You can put them down after a couple of hours if you think they need the food but generally, a dog who does not eat the food right away is not hungry. Another indication that she is eating more than she needs.

You cannot say she is only getting one tin and 110 gms of biscuit if she can eat your other dog's food as well.

Your dog needs to be restricted to what she can eat for her health.

Again, the vet told you to feed less.

I hear what you are saying which is why I've said about that they will now be having split meals with the dry/wet mixed and not the dry left down.

Pity this little snippet wasn't in the origianal post, it would have saved a whole lot of time
