I think the future is the PHEV not fully EV so much, although I can see them becoming popular as city cars.
Have a look at the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. It has a smaller fully electric range (30 miles) but also has a 2 litre petrol engine. You will find a lot of trips (like a 5 mile round trip to the supermarket or a school run) are within the fully electric range and you will use the ICE for longer trips which give better fuel economy anyway.
The SUV body shape is also quite well suited to EV's as there is space for the batteries under the cabin where their weight actually helps the handling as oppose to just being in the way.
Also you need to remember to include the deposit in the calculation not just the monthly repayment, the original lease posted worked out at about £300 per month.0 -

Agree, the i3 range extender makes every other phev look poor value by comparison. I'd love one but the lease deals were still extortionate.
