Buying and then selling a car without knowledge of outstanding finance

i bought a 2003 Kia rio a couple of years ago from a "one careful lady owner only" without first checking for any HPi on it.Never occurred to me at the time and the car was cheap .Anyway it was only when I recently decided to buy a more expensive car that I became aware of HPIs so I decided to do one on mine via Parkers and, to my horror ,learned that there is "outstanding Finance" on the KIA . i searched for the finance company and although it is listed on of those local business sites, I couldn't find a website pertaining to it or a phone number, so i am wondering if they have gone bust.
Anyway i have some one interested in the car but am wondering if there will be any repercussions ?

How much are you selling an 11 year old Kia, is it more than the cost of a consumer HPI check?

It may well be that the finance agreement wasnt updated on HPI.

Whats the finance company name, and any other details you have on them?

    Its called
    AG FINANCE LTD

the only company I can find by that name is based in the Philipines so I cant think they are in anyway relevant.Another thing, the phone number associated with the company is no longer in service

There are a few similar names and one of them is a finance broker in Scotland. I'd clarify the status of the car with a proper HPI check, not an intermediary, and find out if there is still an interest in it.
The honest answer is that you shouldn't, if you have found out the car is still outstanding, pass the problem onto someone else. No doubt others will cite, as a private seller, caveat emptor, but not resolving this issue as you are aware of it is downright dishonest.
Lets hope it's a clerical error.

not quite sure what you mean by proper or intermediate I used Parkers first and then this company just now as i deleted the Parkers one in error

Interesting you saying downright dishonest because that is precisely what the person who was an ex client of mine was when she sold the car to me all of two years ago, having mentioned nothing about it

I could try and contract the company quoting the agreement number but then is it not likely they will demand that i complete whatever amount is outstanding?

Why on earth would they do that when it's not finance that you took out?

I am in a bit of a quandary here because if I sold it and the finance company gets wind of what happened and demand the car back, the buyer could presumably sue me .I could sue my vendor but I would be very reluctant to do that as she is quite elderly and somewhat infirm, in fact I dont even know if she is still alive

I see your point but thinking about it I am more concerned that if I sold it ,the buyer could ostensibly sue me if eh then had the car re claimed by the finance company
