Replacing alarm sensors?

Hi everyone
The alarm sensors in our house are really old and rubbishy, and we want to get nice new ones as we have just re-decorated. Is this quite a straight-forward thing to do? Also, where would I get them from (sorry for asking what are probably really dense questions)
Thanks in advance x

You can buy them in many places, an alarm stockist is where I would personally get them from, they will be able to advise you normally - try the yellow pages.
It is not a big deal to do - just be aware when you take to cover off there is likely to be a tamper sensor and the alarm will probably go off and need resetting / muting. You might want to remove the power and disconnect the battery just in case you short anything while you are at it.
Make sure you write down the wiring and colours and make sure the terminals are not in a different order to the original.
The wiring is usually +12 (red) -12v (Black) then depending on how the engineer has wired them there will be a blue, yellow, white and green (assuming that standard alarm cable has been used) one pair will be the signal circuit loop and the other pair will be the anti tamper loop circuit.
With many of the PIR sensors there are a few options for switching off the signal LED and reducing the sensitivity to avoid nuisance alarms but most applications will just need fixing and wiring standard out of the box.Signature No Longer acceptable -
