No damage to the laptop, battery is also operational and the charger is slightly loose, but that's only because its marginally different to the one initially supplied with the Unit.
Yes those 'fit' issues are quite common. You are fortunate that it wasn't slightly out the other way.
I doubt your laptop suffered any damage. There are protection mechanisms in place to protect the mainboard. My desktop PC for instance auto-offs if I get a power surge.
Laptop chargers are notorious for failing. I have one that's in pretty bad shape. I bought a replacement but that failed so I've gone back to the 'tatty' one for now. Its not in regular use though.0 -

Mind you, I am careful enough to not block the air intake vents at the bottom of the machine.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -

I'd have to concur with Strider.
Laptops have little space for internal air circulation and putting them near your warm 'gonads' just exacerbates the issue. Plus, I'm not overly fond of having electrical fields near such a delicate area with high cell turnover.0
