blemain finance gave me some money!

So I received a letter from blemain finance wanting my bank account details so they could pay me monies owing to me. Now as far as I know I have never used these people for anything. They could not tell me much on the phone as they were asking about a mortgage from 1997 to 2004 and I could not remember any of their security questions. Now this was 5 weeks ago and I have just come back from holiday and I have received a check for £14664.56. Now I had completely forgot about this as I thought it was a scam so is this for real? Has anybody had this happen to them I have never chased any of this PPI stuff as I always thought there was a 6 year cut off point.

If you are sure that you have never used Blemain Finance for anything, then you need to consider the possibility that they have made a mistake, that this £14,664.56 isn't yours, and that they might ask for it back sometime.

You need to make some inquiries.
  • I just wanted to add an update I have just been on the phone to blemain finance to get more information as this is not just a few pounds here. Although I again failed there security questions (I don’t remember the monthly payment from so long ago) I was put through to a manager. Now he has said that the mortgage was with a subsidiary of their company (The Mortgage Business) but would not tell me why they owe me just that they do. He then told me that I had two secured loans with them (again a subsidiary) both paid in full in 2000 and I will be getting more money back for these as well.
Now I cannot remember any of this I do remember having the loans but I could not tell you who with or what the payment where. But I do find it unusual for them to contact me and be so forth coming about all this. From what I understand about this PPi and charges stuff most people are given the run around before they pay out. So does anybody know if they have been fined or lost some kind of court battle because I find it very unusual that they would give money back to a customer when I did not know I was owed anything?
    Many thanks

IF you google this company you will find a long history of complaints .

Hi maggy yes searching google comes up with some very disturbing stories around their practices wich is why I am wondering if the financial ombudsman has been investigating them. Just find it strange that they would just hand over so much money without me asking for it.

Just read your first post of 4 that you posted to this site .
It seems that you were one of the many who stretched themselves financially in the 90s . Therefore I take it that as your mortgage is paid off that Blemain group owe you as others you will see in your google search.
Why you should query FOS in this matter and claim to be paid money that you have not asked for should be a matter that you just request details from the source of payment. No one on this site has the answer .

They have dealt in the whole for the last 30 years with sub prime applicants which maybe reflects on the practises they have employed
  • Blemain Finance is owned 100% by Jerrold Holdings Limited.

The Mortgage Business is a subsidiary of HBOS.

Somebody seems to be telling porkies.
