Is John Lewis Added Care worth it?

But dont forget, depending on your credit card or bank account, if you pay using the right one, you may well have an extra years warranty after the makers one runs, already included.
So if you choose a machine with 2 years MAKERS (not retailers) cover anyway, it would mean you'll be paying £95 for just two final years cover - thats probably a third towards a new machine in the future!

Just saw this thread and your comment.
I have an old Nationwide credit card which gives an extra years warranty on top of the manufacturers warranty. The manufacturers warranty for the product I am buying is one year – but buying from JL extends the warranty to 2 years.
Does anyone know if my Nationwide card would give me an extra years warranty for year 3 (after the JL two years ends) or would it simply run in parallel to the JL second year warranty (on top of the manufacturers) and thus in effect be worthless? I am assuming it’s the later – but it would be useful to know if any one else has has experience of credit card additional warranties when buying from JL.0 -
The titles of these extra warranties are somewhat misleading as they are not , for instance, for 5 years, as they overlap with the original manufacturer's warranty period.
They are called "added care" not warranties, as for the first 2 years which is included as standard, you also get accident damage included.
but yes slightly confusing.0 -
Following the earlier thread.... We have John Lewis Added Care on our washing machine and it has just broken down. They have quoted a week before someone can even come and look at it, and we have to be ready for their engineer from 7.30 AM all day because they can't be in touch about appointment times or even say morning or afternoon. After the engineer has come I suppose there will be another wait to get parts and repair it. So we will be without the machine for far longer than necessary because John Lewis don't do what British Gas do and have a quick initial response time.
They don't have any suggestions about how to wash sheets and clothes meanwhile, btw. Who knows, maybe there is a laundrette not too long a drive away, or perhaps a neighbour whose machine we can borrow.... or maybe if none of that works we can just go and buy another machine ourselves lol. My advice is, don't think that John Lewis offers good service any more - they have been left behind with this poor and expensive product. Better to pay the £90 a year premium into an account and you'll soon amass enough to just buy a new machine when you need one.0 -
We bought a Bosch washing machine a lot of years ago and for a small one off payment to Bosch you got extended warranty, do not know if they still do this a look on there web site might tell you and save the hassle with JL.0
