time between exchange and completion

The property we are buying is now vacant. Is it possible/normal/acceptable to ask if we can begin to move some stuff in after exchange?
By then we will be legally obliged to buy it, so the vendors will know we aren't going to pull out.
is this an acceptable thing to ask, or a big no no?
I know we would have to insure it from the day of exchange, so that bit shouldn't cause am issue.

It's not impossible but highly unlikely.
Why don't you go for a simultaneous exchange/completion on the same day?0 -
I had a similar questions when i was selling my property. My buyers wanted to pass on keys to rental agents and start showing people around. i said No for two reasons,
one - it was only 10 days between exchange and completion so not long for them to wait
two - i believe that as seller i am responsible to handover the property at completion in the same condition that it was at exchange, and to prevent problems i felt it was better if no one had access until completion. that way there could be no "damage" or whatever. (property was vacant)
so you can always ask, but dont be too surprised if you get a "No"0 -
Fair enough, it was just a thought, so we could start to move things in at a more leisurely pace. No big problem.
I don't know why we can't
exchange and complete on the same day, Cheeky monkey. The solicitor said we needed a full week between the two.0 -
I think what would worry me about both on the same day is if exchange doesn't happen. Then what do you do?
When we moved into our home we were ftb so were happy to give the vendors an extra few days before we moved in. Worked for both of us.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

Maybe the mortgage lenders own requirements.0 -
When we bought our current house - 3.5 years ago - our vendors allowed us to move some items in between exchange and completion (seven days) as it was vacant. In fact they suggested it without us needing to ask
We exchanged on our new house on Friday and are compleing on 16th Dec - buying another uninhabited house - but this time we are just moving the garden items in between exchange and completion which suits all parties involved.......Mortgage-free for fourteen years!
