Ebay phishing emails

I had a query opened against me in the ebay Resolution Centre for item not received a couple of days ago. I'm dealing with that.

Today I received what I thought was an email from ebay stating that a query has been opened for item not as described. There was no link to the particular item, but I clicked on the links which didn't take me straight through to ebay. The connection failed. Signed onto ebay separately and there's nothing. No new messages, the one case opened hasn't changed, nothing against items sold.

I've changed my ebay password and forwarded the email onto the spoof ebay address. I presumed it was just a coincidence after a case has been opened, but if not, it's very clever as I'd automatically tried to click through as I thought the opened case had changed in some way.

On both emails they gave my full name. I was going to contact ebay support but would probably be on hold for ages. Any thoughts?

I booked a call back from Ebay earlier, and they phoned me back straight away.

No need to make further contact with ebay, as I've forwarded them the spoof email. As there's nothing on my account, there's nothing to see.

Just wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar. Just a coincidence I suppose that I already had a case open...... that particular case now closed as item received.... thank goodness!

yes; *never* click on a link without first hovering the mouse over it to check what URL it links to.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....
  • I haven't had anything like this, though I got one of the generic "your account has been suspended because you need to update your credit card details" type phishing emails recently.
