ASDA - cochineal products labeled veggie
Comments
-
I am emailing the vegetarian society as we speak.0
-
Can anyone name any products that have cochineal in but are labelled as veggie?0
-
Is it me or does anyone else think this is a fake complaint???0
-
nope its true.
Asda originally told me that they did this at first then changed their stance when the publicity hit them. they promsied to rectify the problem and publicise it but they havnt done anything as far as I know.
There is no legal ruling about what is considered veggie or vegan and the labeling laws are also a joke.
as another example I found a stir fry labeled vegan but had been preserved with an egg mixture.
As for booze - blood is still used in wine in many countries.
Most beer has gelatine, isinglass and other nasties plus egg and skimmed milk.
Fish bits are also used in the filtration.
Considering we have so many alternative available today its daft this creulty is still considered ok for the production of booze.
Even Coke & most soft fizzy drinks are not veggoe
However there are many drinks that are ok.
A full list is in the Animal freeshopper - including foods etc from the vegan society

while on the subject of drinks - many of these sugar free drinks are promoted as healthy - but there is now so much eveidence that sweeteners cause probelms, obesity and are very toxic - that you wouldnt give them to any child or adult if you new the truth.
Do a search on sweeteners and make up your own mind.
I was shocked to learn 10,000 begal dogs had their throats cut while concious - for the recent testing of a new sweetener.
the results showed the product was so toxic the livers & kidneys were 4 times their normal sizer.
the product was approved for human use and is widely available in all unethical supermarkets under a few different names - despite this research figures.
Gnever take advice from broke or unsuccessful people

Just googled maybe its this "Sucralose" ? ........
In ridiculous laboratory tests on a new artificial sweetener, thousands of animals were killed; BEAGLES, after 52 weeks of testing, by exsanguination - they probably had their throats cut; marmoset MONKEYS died from brain damage; and RABBITS were poisoned, during a 20-year study into the effects of Sucralose (badiprose for the adipose). The sweetener - sold in the massively overweight they-can't-stop-eating United States as (venda) Splenda - is expected to be on sale to the overweight in the UK in a couple of months. So we know that if you have too much of this stuff you'll get brain damage or be poisoned? All right, so Sucralose/Splenda killed monkeys, rabbits and others - so how much of it is too much for humans, extrapolating from your rabbit/monkey/beagle/other tests? Is it the beagle test that is relevant for humans? Or maybe the monkey test? No? How about the rabbit? Did the lab testers just keep going until they found an animal that didn't suffer adverse reactions and/or die from the sweetener? And it took them 20 years? No, you can't be too careful. So give it a miss and just cut down/out all sweeties, sweeties.

I don't remember what the product was, but I do recall finding cochineal listed among the ingredients on a "suitable for vegetarians" product from Asda some time ago. I am almost certain it was an own-brand product. It would appear that Asda, having corrected their error, have decided that if they deny it ever existed, it will be widely believed to be nothing more than an urban myth (a bit like Coca-cola which was allegedly made with cocaine until about 1922 - a claim denied nowadays). I remember mentioning the cochineal to a friend, who decided that if it was in "veggie" food then it must presumably be some sort of synthetic version of cochineal rather than the real thing.0

I have also just discovered that carmine (which I previously thought was a plant extract) is apparently also a beetle-based colouring

It's worth pointing out that the safety testing on this product at the time would require the toxicity level to be determined and the enlarged liver and kidney sizes were likely to have been the result of massive doses administered in such tests. Most common foodstuffs would be equally toxic in large enough doses so this does not necessarily suggest that sucralose is any more or less toxic than sugar. Nor of course, does it suggest it is totally safe. Just don't believe everything you read on the internet.the results showed the product was so toxic the livers & kidneys were 4 times their normal sizer.

It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.
