Hi All,
My wife used to have an Amazon credit card, now as we all know it has now changed to MBNA but I ask you this, Is it possible to use your new card from MBNA without activating it? because my wife has unfortunately clicked on her old card on Amazon to make a payment by accident, so she didn't know she had a bill to pay consequently they have charged her for missed direct debit payments, I am confused surely it shouldn't have been accepted in the first place if the card wasn't activated? HELP please

The old Amazon and new MBNA cards have different numbers. I believe they were continuing to accept the old Amazon number until customers activated their new cards. This is to avoid folk having no card at all.
I assume your wife used the old number. Since you didn't activate the new one, this is your current active card.
Since they authorised it, you have to pay. I'd give them a call and explain the situation. They might refund any charges if you ask nicely, accepting responsibility.
And go change payment options on Amazon now.0 -

Why didn't she get a bill?
There was a question similar to this on Moneybox yesterday when a 'glitch' at HSBC (their term) meant some credit card bills of theirs were not sent out one day.
The basic outcome was that no bill should mean no payment required that month, and definitely no charges applied or defaults registered (directly related to the bank's failure)

I'd assumed the statement was online only like mine was and the OP (or OP's wife) didn't check as they were expecting it to be zero.
It's a lesson in checking statements every month for all open accounts, even if unused. There's a good argument for disabling paperless too. If you want to avoid that paperwork you have to close the account.0 -
How did she think she had paid? Did she not notice that the payment did not show up on her other statement?0
